Summer must be coming as I managed to get a windsurf session in after work today (4.30pm-6.30pm). OK I had to de-rig in front of my van with the headlights on, but it was still a good two hour session after work!

When I first got there the wind was around 15 knots, so I rigged my 99 litre Cross and 6.3m sail. On the first couple of runs, I had to pump once or twice to get on the plane, but once there I was planing all the way across the estuary and able to gain ground upwind. I used the marginal winds to practise my tacks, and made lots of good fairly slick tacks.

The wind then picked up a little and I was properly powered up and able to get straight on the plane and plane all the way around my gybes. I moved into the estuary a little more and was able to do a figure of eight around two bouys at either side of the bay, so I was able to practise my 'slalom sailing'. I made at least 30 consecutive fully planing gybes and was having a perfect time blasting back and forth across the estuary at full speed before carving into a fast gybe right next to one of the bouys. I'm not usually that consistent with my gybes and it felt good to be planing non-stop for such a long time. In the end I had to get off the water as it was getting dark and it was only then that I realised I hadn't fallen in the water once in two hours of sailing, nor had I stopped!! OK, I got a little wet on some of the tacks, but I never fell in properly, just got wet up to my waist as the board sunk as I pushed it away from the wind.

A good session, all on my own blasting around the estuary.
